Rachel is a mother of 4, was born in Wales to Caribbean Grenadian parents and is married to a Ugandan. She has studied law at University in France and worked as an English teacher in the Middle East. She considers herself to be very much a citizen of the world. She has been an immigration expert guest on BBC West Midlands radio, IRIE FM Jamaica, is a regular immigration expert guest on Birmingham’s Newstyle radio and is also an expert guest on “Immigration Matters” on Hope FM which is specifically aimed at Seventh Day Adventist church members. Rachel is the "Go To" person for the Grenadian online TV channel #RideAlong with Junior George. She sits as an advisor on immigration for the Jamaican Diaspora UK committee.
She also kept a regular immigration slot in a national community newspaper.
In November 2017 Rachel won an award for Best Legal Advisor at the Bex Live Awards which was recognition of the hard work of the whole team.
Outside of her immigration practice Rachel also engages in activities in the fight against knife / gun crime and street violence.
She is a former school governor and the founder and Chair of Black Women in Politics – a cross party initiative aimed at encouraging women to engage in politics.
Rachel is available to speak at community and professional events on immigration or political issues.
For immigration, she speaks particularly around the topic of how family members can live together in the UK. Rachel is able to easily breakdown the complex area of “Overstaying” so that the audience go away with an understanding of how the Home Office deals with illegal immigration. Attendees will also have guidance as to how a person can regularise their immigration status.
The talk is designed to be engaging, interactive and informative.
As regards politics, Rachel addresses the very poor political engagement within the ethnic minority communities and particularly amongst people recently arrived in the UK. She breaks down the relationship between local and national politics and how this impacts our everyday lives. Rachel is a vocal advocate of pepole exercising their right to vote and for suitable people to put themselves forward for election to public office. Rachel gives a summary of the steps required to represent a political party or indeed on being an independent candidate.
